Every penny from Mallya will be recovered: Jaitley

New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday declined specific comment if his government considered industrialist Vijay Mallya an absconder but sought to assure that every penny that is due from him to state-run banks will be recovered.

Answering a specific question at the India Today conclave on Mallya, who is said to owe Rs.9,000 crore to 17 banks, most of them in the state sector, the finance minister said every agency in India, be it for enforcement or investigation, was on the job regarding the case.

"The facts are very clear: Every government agency will take strong action against him. Banks will go all out to recover every single penny," Jaitley said about Mallya who left the country earlier this month amid charges of wilful default on bank loans worth thousands of crores.

Even as Jaitley was speaking, a consortium led by the State Bank of India was preparing for the auction of Mallya's Kingfisher House at Jogeshwari in Mumbai, in a bid to recover a part of the the nearly Rs.7,000 crore debt due from the now grounded Kingfisher Airlines alone.

Pakistan refutes Indian claim of approving 19 match permits

New Delhi: The Pakistan High Commission here on Thursday refuted an Indian claim that the mission had been approved 19 permits for witnessing World T20 matches in which Pakistan is taking part.

The high commission officials here maintained that the mission had applied for permits to 34 officials to watch four matches -- two in Kolkata and two in Mohali, a high commission official said on condition of anonymity. He said so far, only 10 applications have been approved which include one for High Commissioner Abdul Basit.

"Permits for the defence, naval and air force advisors; press and political counsellors; and protocol assistants have not been approved so far," the PHC official said. "The figure of 19 given by India is misleading as it also includes family members of those who have not received approval yet," the official added.

"Pakistan has never hosted a T20 World Cup ... India is hosting it but not allowing Commission officials to be present at venues where our team is playing," the official said.

Indian External Affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup had on Wednesday said that considering the occasion, 19 approvals were issued as a gesture to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. "This has been conveyed to Pakistan ministry of foreign affairs at senior levels," Swarup said.

Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, "Epson") today announced the establishment of a new long-range corporate vision and a new mid-range business plan. The Epson 25 Corporate Vision outlines the path the company should follow over the next decade, from the 2016 fiscal year ending March 2017 to the start of the 2025 fiscal year. Meanwhile, the Epson 25 Mid-Range Business Plan (FY2016-2018) is a three-year plan for the first phase of work toward achieving the vision.

1. SE15 Corporate Vision and SE15 Mid-Range Business Plan (FY2013-2015) review

Under the SE15 Corporate Vision that began in FY2009 and the SE15 Updated Mid-Range Business Plan the company has followed since FY2013, Epson focused on its strengths and transformed its business portfolio by shifting to new business models and product lineups in existing businesses and by opening up new business domains. On the other hand, we were unable to fully advance in some new business areas.

Epson identified issues in these areas that it must address to secure future growth. Specifically, we will have to acquire knowledge in these new areas. We will have to expand and upgrade our sales and support organization here and in other priority areas. On the whole, however, the actions taken under SE15 are yielding results in each business. The company is now structured to generate a steady flow of cash and, with exchange rates acting as a tailwind, Epson has achieved a solid financial turnaround.

2. Epson 25 Corporate Vision

The Epson 25 Corporate Vision, which is formulated based on considerations such as changes in the business environment and mega trends, describes how Epson wants to be in 2025. Epson 25 includes the vision statement and financial targets below.

(1) Vision statement

"Creating a new connected age of people, things and information with efficient, compact and precision technologies"

* Creating a new connected age
Epson aims to help free people from repetitive manual work and from unnecessary wastes of effort and time. Epson's goal is to heighten people's creativity, and to create a sustainable and affluent society in which people enjoy safe and healthy lifestyles.

* People, things, and information
Advances in information and communications technology will mean increasing amounts of information will become available on the internet, causing cyber space to continuously expand. As a company that specializes in generating value in the real world, Epson will refine its technologies, and will work with IT companies to increase the value of its technologies it provides to customers.

* Efficient, compact and precision technologies

Epson will leverage its efficient, compact and precision technologies to generate value in three areas: smart technologies, the environment and performance. Smart technologies: Use advanced products and software so customers can easily, conveniently, and securely use Epson products anywhere and anytime.

Environment: Contribute to the development of a sustainable society by leveraging its technologies to reduce the environmental impact of its products and services across their life cycles.

Kolkata: Sri Lanka opener Tillakaratne Dilshan, who blasted an unbeaten 83 off 56 balls in a World Twenty20 encounter against Afghanistan at the Eden Gardens, said he wanted to anchor the innings with others batting around him. His knock on Thursday helped the defending champions cruise past the Afghanistan total of 153/7 with six wickets to spare.

“When I saw that I had got a start, I wanted to bat through. I wanted the others, the youngsters to bat around me. Very pleased with the way things went,” Dilshan said at the post-match media conference. The 39-year-old said scoring runs on the Eden wicket was not an easy task at all with rival spinners making life difficult.

“Batting was not easy on the wicket. Especially with their spinners bowling. That is one of the reasons why I made it a point to stick around and see my side through,” said the veteran, who was adjudged man-of-the-match for his efforts.

The right-hander added that it was a knock he needed under his belt before going onto the big matches. “I did not score many runs of late. And I needed this knock going into the big matches. I am happy that I could stay till the end,” he said.

When asked about retirement, Dilshan said: ”Not going to retire if I keep on playing like this. But you never know one fine day I may just wake up and feel like not playing anymore. But for the time being I have no plans to quit.” Dilshan's illustrious teammates, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara retired last year.

Mumbai: IDBI Bank employees have decided to go on a four-day nation-wide strike from March 28 to oppose the government's move to dilute its stake in the troubled state-run lender. Employees and officers of the lender under the banner of United Platform of IDBI Bank Unions have given the strike call.

"We are against the privatisation plan. If the government wants to divest their stake they can do it but the bank should remain a public sector bank," United Platform of IDBI Bank Unions said in a statement here today, while claiming that the Platform has support of over 12,000 employees of the bank.

"We want a written assurance from the Government that their shareholding in IDBI Bank will not be less than 51% at all times as assured on the floor of Parliament," it said. The Government owns around 80% stake in the lender.

In the Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said the Government was open to bring down its stake in IDBI Bank to below 50%.

"The process of transformation of IDBI Bank has already started. The Government will take it forward and also consider the option of reducing its stake to below 50%," Jaitley said in the February 29 Budget speech. The employees are also demanding immediate implementation of wage settlement which is pending since November 2012.

Scribbles, tessellations and doodles have made us go crazy, simplifying this and making something wearable has led us to create an innovative and off beat collection. Our spring summer line titled "Tradition meets quirky" takes us back in time, drawing from some of our most cherished childhood memories - be it the dragon fly that we chased in the park, the TV remote that we fought our siblings for, the cool shade of summer umbrella's that we spent hours lazing under, puzzles the wacked our brains, finger prints that marked our identity and tiara's that excited young girls, all elements cleverly disguised to suit today’s trends were the key motives used in this collection.

The collection is created using intensive manual laboured techniques such as ethnic hand embroidery, tie & dies and block printing to give it a handcrafted feel.

As we believe "Style isn't about attention but self-expression", so infuse a part of what you are in every outfit!!

Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi speech at Hyderabad Brahmasthanam Mahotsavam

World renowned spiritual leader Her Holiness Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, affectionately known to her devotees across the globe as "Amma," is undertaking a 'Bharat yatra.' As part of the yatra she is in Hyderabad for two days began yesterday.

Excerpts from Amma’s talk at the Hyderabad Brahmasthanam Mahotsavam (19/03/2016)

Hyderabad, March 19th 2016: Many people feel, “Life is a curse. It is the result of all the sins I have done in the past.” Instead, we should be able to think, “Life is a blessing. It is a gift given to us by God. God has sent me here to think good thoughts and do good deeds. So, I need to develop the ability to accept all situations with discernment. This life is meant for me to grow, acquire strength and become as expansive as the universe.” The experiences and situations we face throughout life are even greater teachers than time. What attitude should we develop while facing them? We need to develop gratitude.

Gratitude is a prayer. A famous philosopher once stated, “This single prayer of ‘Thank you.’ is really all you need.” We often forget that this life and all of nature are gifts graciously bestowed upon us by the divine. In our ignorance, we arrogantly feel that these are our right. Our greatest misconception is that of confusing our blessings for our birthright. The mistake borne from this misconception is that we lose gratitude and reverence.

Human beings survive because of the thousands upon thousands of aspects of nature that constantly and selflessly serve and support them. At each heartbeat, we are indebted to many subtle as well as obvious parts of nature. When this awareness dawns within, it becomes easy to appreciate everything during each breath we take. A heart overflowing with gratefulness, without any complaints or criticism, is a sign of mental maturity.

Today, many people use the words, ‘thank you’ merely as a verbal embellishment. Even though everyone says thank you all the time, very rarely do these words truly come from the heart. The dark clouds of selfishness often conceal the moonlight of gratitude.Gratitude is the ability to reminisce about all the support and help we have received, with an attitude of humility.

It is a state of mind. When we lovingly recognize the goodness in another person, this helps to awaken the goodness in ourselves. When we look back at our life with this attitude, we will realize that we owe so much to thousands of people. It would take lifetimes to pay back these debts, especially towards nature and above all, to God. In fact, gratitude benefits us more than anyone else. The positivity and goodness that awakens within as a result of being grateful in turn benefits society and the entire world.

The ways of our mind are very strange. We don’t see things that are right in front of our eyes, be we see many things that don’t even exist. It is the nature of the mind to fixate on what we don’t have and forget how much we have. Say, for example, one of our teeth falls out. From the moment the tooth falls out, our tongue will keep poking at the gap created. Our tongue never did that when the tooth was still there. But now, the tongue finds it difficult not to go into the gap. It is the same way with our mind. It is more interested in looking for what is not there than to see all the good that always surrounds us. When we develop the ability to see the power of God that pervades everything, both within and without, gratitude will spontaneously overflow from our mind.

In reality, do we really have any right to assert our ownership or authority over anything in this world? Millions of people have lived on this Earth before us. They, too, claimed that parts of the world were ‘theirs’. Seeing mankind’s folly repeated over and over, the Earth must have mused to itself then and now, “What a shame! People of the past already tried to stake claim to the land upon which they stood. But, they all eventually disappeared without taking even a single grain of sand with them. Those who exist now will also face the same fate. I existed then, exist now and will go on existing forever.” We must not forget that endless are the corpses of those who previously tried to claim what we presently consider to be ours.

Gratitude will spontaneously arise in the mind of one who is prepared to help others without expecting anything in return. The real expression of gratefulness is in giving, not in taking. This is true prayer. When we contemplate deeply on the concept of thankfulness, at first thoughts of all those who have helped or protected us in the past come to mind. As we think even deeper, we will come to realise that gratitude is actually an inner connection between God, the entire creation and us.

As we often act without an attitude of gratefulness, we cut down trees. This reduces the purification of air. When Amma was young, when a person got cut or wounded, cow dung would be applied to the wound to avoid infection. Today, if we were to do the same, the wound would get infected. This is how polluted nature has become. This pollution is destroying the harmony of nature. Instead of greed, if we could develop gratitude, we would be able to save nature and ourselves.

Just as happiness, gratitude towards all of life is also a decision. Once we make this decision, our mind will not sway in the face of temporary difficulties. Such minds will always be filled with happiness and contentment. We face many different kinds of situations in life. In some situations, we may have the freedom to choose how we should react. But, in certain other situations, we may have no choice but to accept. When we have the choice to decide how to respond to a circumstance, there is no need to remain idle, thinking that everything is God’s will. Here, we need to use our discrimination to choose the right path of action.

In order to manage businesses and companies, many people get their MBA and other such degrees. Learning how to manage 500 people really means learning how to manage 500 minds. However, despite all our learning, we fail to learn to manage our own mind. Just as we manage the external world, it is equally important to learn how to manage the internal world. Otherwise, we will remain half developed. The ability to face situations in life with maturity is real success.

We should try not to jump to conclusions about anyone. While travelling by road, we often see signs that say, “Road work ahead. Thank you for your cooperation.” When we see such a sign, we wait patiently for the traffic to move, no matter how busy we are. In the same way, when we meet and interact with people, some may express anger, hatred or other negativities. In these situations, we need to develop patience. ‘Road Work’ may be going on in their mind.

Let our lives become an offering that alleviates the pain of the suffering people. To be compassionate towards the poor, one does not need a lot of wealth or a very high position in society. A kind word, a compassionate glance, a small favour, all these can bring light into their lives and into ours as well. It is not what we received, but what we were able to give, that determines the value of our life. If we have been able to bring happiness to a soul even for a minute, it is a great achievement in itself.

Organ recipients at Apollo Hospitals, thank donors & celebrate new lease of life on the eve of World Happiness Day!

Hyderabad, March 19th, 2016 : Apollo Hospitals hosted a unique 'Organ Recipients' Carnival & Thanks Giving' on the eve of 'World Happiness Day' on Saturday. It was an occasion for the patients who underwent organ transplants at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, to express their heartfelt gratitude to the organ donors' families, whose generous decision to donate the organs of their loved ones gave them a new lease of life.

Around 15 organ recipients and their families were joined by Ms Sangita Reddy, Jt. Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals; Dr. Manish C. Varma, Chief Transplant Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad and Dr. G. Swarnalatha, Incharge, Jeevandan at the event.

For someone who has been on death bed not knowing how the next day would shape up and constantly enduring the trauma of life and death, the organ donor's family provides truly a new lease of life. This life changing episode is of boundless happiness and celebrations not only to the recipient, but his family too. There can no better day than World Happiness Day to celebrate this joy and also to extend their deepest gratitude to the donors and their families. It is a day on which every recipient would count his blessings and thank the people and events that contributed to his Happiness.

Speaking on the occasion Ms Sangita Reddy said, the organ recipients and their families have a constant desire to express their gratitude to the donor families for their munificence, because the cure of organ failure is through organ transplantation. This World Happiness Day celebration is a small effort from Apollo Hospitals in collaboration with Jeevandan to provide a forum to the recipient & families to express their gratitude to the donor families and an assurance to those families that their gesture has been instrumental in spreading happiness in the lives of so many.

We have to acknowledge Jeevandan for its tremendous contribution in this success. But there is need to raise awareness about the beauty and joy of organ donation. Every donor's family gets immense happiness of knowing that their loved one is living through four others. Till date only 10,000 people registered for organ donation through Jeevandan, by next year we should have at least one lakh registered to donaate organs, more and more people should come forward to bridge the gap of organ requirement, she said.

She herself signed and handed over the Organ Donation Registration form to Dr Swarnalatha on the occasion. She regretted that 45% of those waiting for liver transplantation pass away even before they get a liver. Today Apollo runs one of the largest organ transplant programs in the world and has teams and infrastructure producing results on par with the best in the world, Ms Sangita Reddy said.

Dr. G. Swarnalatha said, fortunate to see so many organ recipients at one place and being happy, this is a great motivation to those in the waiting list. Jeevandan has made study progress, since its inception in 2013, we got 204 donations of which 41 were in 2013, 51 in 2014 and 89 in 2015. We had done 199 liver transplants, 357 kidney transplants, 19 heart transplants and 3 lung transplants through Jeevandan. More should come forward for donations and several lives could be saved. The All India organ donation rate is 0.5 per million population. Telangana ranks number two in donations after Tamilnadu with 1.7 per million and Hyderabad 8 per million population. If we continue at this rate we can be number one. Off the five lakh accidents, 60% are brain deaths and only 10% of them are coming forward to donate organs, therefore there much greater scope. We look forward to a day when there is no waiting list for organ transplantation. We are conducting CMEs and Counsellors' training to raise the number of Organ donations. Apollo has made tremendous contribution to Jeevandan by being in the forefront in organ donations, she said.

The Organ Transplantation journey at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad is spread over 100 liver transplantations and many more kidney transplantations. Our team has had the privilege to witness the amazing journey of these patients from Disease to Health and from Despair to Hope. It is our constant endeavor to spread health and happiness through good work. The superlative outcomes of liver transplantation with over 95% success rates, which is better than the national and international average, ensures that the generosities of donor families do not go waste and we have more smiling faces at the end of the day, says Dr. Manish C. Varma.
