Chennai: The rains have come back to haunt the residents of the city and the people of Velacheri are already worried about the intensifying rain. With Chembarambakkam receiving the highest rainfall of 107 mm today, it will create some panic like it did during the 2015 Chennai floods.
The forecast from the meteorological department is that heavy rains will continue. The low pressure in the Bay of Bengal that had formed has now turned into a depression, that lies about 250 km south east of Chennai, just off the coast of Tamilnadu. The rain is likely to gain momentum in the next 48 hours.
Many areas like Guindy, Kolapakkam, Taramani, Sholinganallur also received more than 70 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Power cuts and fluctuations were felt in parts of Chennai like Madipakkam, Nanganallur, Puzhuthivakkam, Tambaram among other areas.
