Chennai: With today being the last day to file nominations, the Aam Aadmi Party has announced that it is staying away from the 16 May Tamilnadu Assembly elections.
Speaking to 'News Today', State coordinator for AAP, Lenin said, "AAP wants to concentrate on the Punjab elections. Hence we will not test waters here this time, but we will be conducting rallies against parties like AIADMK, DMK, PMK and PWF. Places like RK Nagar and Kolathur will be heavily concentrated. We will keep putting forth our party’s propaganda through these rallies and meetings as well. Social media will also play an important role in it"
AAP’s priority is to become a nation wide party by having a strong foot hold in various parts of the country, he said.
"Current scenario sees only two powerful national parties, the BJP and Congress, Communist is slowly losing its grip. AAP will capitalise on this situation and will do well at the Punjab elections. We are the third largest party in the country." said Lenin.
Talking about AAP’s talks with PWF, Lenin said, "Vaiko had invited us to join his coalition. So the meet was setup, the issues discussed were taken to Delhi. Most of the parties in PWF alliance have a bad history, as they once aligned with either AIADMK or DMK. Hence it was decided against any tie ups."
The party has already started distributing flyers and conducting meetings against rival political parties on their corruption cases. "We will contest in the local body elections in Tamilnadu," he said.
Just a few weeks back, AAP hit some rough waters when some of their party members raised their voices against the current office bearers for Tamilnadu. During Vaiko’s meeting, some members staged protests stating it wasn’t the decision of Arvind Kejriwal to form any sort of alliance.
