Chennai: SRM University premises at Kattankulathur owing to a fire breaking out on one of its buildings. According to sources, the fire broke out on the second floor of the tech park building of the university and spread to its other floors above.

A faculty, speaking from outside the college, said the students, including those in the central library building, which is a little away from the one where the fire broke out, were asked to leave the campus around 1.30 pm.

The faculty said a short circuit was suspected to have led to the fire. Three fire tenders were pressed into service and they put out the flames.

Amritsar: Indian Test captain Virat Kohli opted to pray for divine blessings ahead of the upcoming World T20 with a visit to the Golden Temple with his family.

Kohli was accompanied by his mother and sister during Friday's trip, which also included a visit to the Wagah border. "I felt really good here. I had been planning to visit the Golden Temple for a long time. I felt really good and peaceful here," Kohli was told reporters here.

Kohli was rested for the recent three-match Twenty20 series at home against Sri Lanka but is due to return to the India team ahead of the Asia Cup T20 competition which begins in Bangladesh on February 24.

The Golden Temple has been visited by several high-profile cricketers in the past, including Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh.

Mumbai: India’s limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, star opener Rohit Sharma and middle-order specialist Yuvraj Singh are set to make their sixth successive appearance at the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 tournament, which is scheduled to start in India next month.

The 27-day tournament begins in Nagpur on March 8 with a total of 19 men’s players from all countries set to feature in their sixth straight event, while 29 women cricketers will make their fifth successive appearance.

After the inaugural World T20 which happened way back in 2007 in South Africa which India won beating arch-rivals Pakistan, the event went on to be staged in England, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This year the tournament will be played at eight venues across India with Eden Gardens in Kolkata scheduled to host the final on April 3.

In the men’s event, the Bangladesh team will include five players who have played in all the previous five events — Masrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim.

Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle and Denesh Ramdin from West Indies, Nathan McCullum, Ross Taylor (both New Zealand), AB de Villiers, J.P. Duminy (both South Africa), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Lasith Malinga (both Sri Lanka), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) and Shane Watson (Australia) are the other players to attend their sixth straight World T20 event.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday accused central ministers of driving Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, of the University of Hyderabad, to commit suicide.

“Rohith kept saying that if you suspend me, my career will be ruined. He pleaded with the university not to suspend him. But our system compelled a talented student like him commit suicide,” said Kejriwal, addressing a protest meet at the Jantar Mantar here.

Hundreds of students and faculty members of various universities took out a march from Ambedkar Bhawan to Jantar Mantar to condemn the “institutional killing” of 26-year-old Vemula. Kejriwal too joined them to express solidarity with the student’s family.

“The central ministers drove Rohith to suicide. But even today, the two ministers have not been questioned. The ministers who drove Rohith Vemula to commit suicide are roaming freely and no action taken against them. The culprits should be immediately arrested and investigation initiated against them,” he demanded.

Kejriwal also warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about tangling with students. “Modiji, don’t mess with students. If they get together, they’ll shake your chair in such a way that you won’t forget ever.”

Vemula committed suicide on January 17, triggering widespread protests demanding action against central ministers Smriti Irani, Bandaru Dattatreya and others, blaming them for the suicide.

Five Dalit students, including Vemula, were suspended in September following a clash with a leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Dattatreya, who is the MP from Secundrabad, had written to Irani, the human resource development minister, seeking action against the students, following which they were suspended.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi exhorted the 181 probationers to recall Mahatma Gandhi's talisman of keeping in mind the welfare of the poorest of the poor while taking decisions.

Noting that several of the probationers had worked in the private sector before joining the IAS, he said that while their earlier assignments were "jobs", they are now going to undertake "service."

Stressing on the importance of progress and connectivity in the North-East region, the Prime Minister said that if the North-East developed, the entire country would march forward.

Bahraich: Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah on Wednesday asked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to clarify whether he supports anti-national slogans in name of freedom of speech.

"There is a debate going in Parliament that whether anti-national slogans are freedom of speech or not. I want to ask these parties and the Congress, Congress vice president, if they support raising of anti-national slogans in name of freedom of speech? Shah said while addressing a rally in Bahraich.

Shah further asked that the people who said 'Bharat tere tukre honge', is that freedom of speech or an act of sedition?

The BJP president added that all parties should make it clear if they support the slogans that were raised inside JNU, if not, then they should condemn it.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi said that he will raise the JNU issue in parliament, but the government will not let him speak as they are scared of what he will say. Speaking to the media, Rahul said, "the government said they are open to a discussion but they will not let me speak in the Parliament".

Kathmandu: A 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Nepal on Wednesday afternoon creating panic in the Himalayan country.

The quake tremors, epicentred in Sindhupalchowk district of central Nepal, were felt at 3.07 p.m. (local time). The district was badly hit in the April 25 quake last year, the National Seismological Centre said.

People came out of their houses and offices screaming when the tremors were felt. A total of 435 aftershocks above 4 on the Richter scale have been recorded in the Himalayan nation during the past 10 months.

ASK Group is set to invest Rs.1400 cr in next 18-24 months in Indian real estate sector

Announces closure of its Real Estate fund of Rs.1400 cr ($205 million)

Mumbai / Chennai, 24^th February, 2016: ASK Group, today announced the closure of its fourth Real Estate fund “ASK Real Estate Special Opportunities Fund II” of INR 1373 Cr ($205 million). The company is planning to invest the same in next 18-24 months in six major cities i.e. Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR and Hyderabad; in midsized residential projects.

This is the largest domestic pure equity real estate fund raised by any player in the industry post global crisis of 2008 and ASK Group has achieved this in just over 14 months; a milestone in itself. With the closure of this fund, ASK Group’s real estate private equity assets under management/ advisory stands at Rs.3500 crores.

While commenting on this Mr. Amit Bhagat, MD&CEO, ASK Property Investment Advisors said, “Investors in the current market conditions see performance track record and strategy. So far, ASK has returned superior risk adjusted returns and focused on partnering with reputed developer, midsize residential projects and top 6 metro cities has earned us almost 2/3rd of repeat investors. 25% of the fund has already been committed in two projects so far.”

Mr. Sunil Rohokale, MD&CEO, ASK Group said, “ASK provides growth capital to the developer partners as we believe in equity returns. This is our third domestic real estate fund raised in the last seven years and previous two domestic real estate funds are fully committed. We have primarily focused on Family Offices/ Ultra HNI investors. We have made five full and seven part exits from the first two funds in just over 4 years.”

In this financial year, ASK Group has invested Rs. 365 Cr in Rajesh Lifespaces’ Vikhroli project, Rs 125 crores with ATS group in Noida project, Rs.112 crore in ‘Purvankara’s’ Chennai project and  has exited from three investments while garnering a impressive multiple. The group exited Mumbai’s ‘Rajesh Lifespaces’ investment with a multiple of 2.26 in over three years, and its investments in Pune with Amit Enterprises and Paranjape with a multiple of 2.53 (over 3 years )and 1.80 times (less than 3 years ) respectively.

Additionally, the group has exited from ‘ATS ONE Hamlet’, a project of ATS Group in Noida in (2012) , with a multiple of 2.45 in just over two years and ‘Liviano’, a project by Darode-Jog Developers in Pune in (2010), while returning a multiple of 2.35 in just over three years.

ASK Group through its Real Estate has committed Rs 2000 crore in 19 projects.

DTI returns with the 7th edition of Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI) in New Delhi

New Delhi, February 24, 2016: With respect to the growing mutual collaborations between India and South Africa, the Department of Trade and Industry commences the 7th edition of the Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI) in New Delhi on 25th and 26th February 2016 at PHD house, New Delhi. Prior to Delhi, the 2 day ITI was concluded in Hyderabad on 23rd February 2016.

The ITI is part of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (the dti) export and investment promotion strategy to focus on India as a high growth export market and foreign direct investment source.

The trade delegation from South Africa, comprising 26 companies, have travelled to India to attend the seventh annual Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI), to showcase the best of South African products. ITI would enhance the value addition of the goods exported to the Indian market and explore opportunities of joint ventures with Indian companies in sectors like agro-processing, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, mining and mineral beneficiation, infrastructure, architecture and renewable energy sectors.

South Africa has evolved and extended its capacity in various sectors across the Indian market which comes from its strong ties and proficiency in building trade partnerships, investment opportunities and brand promotions.

South Africa is India's second largest trading partner in the African continent, with bilateral trade growing from US$ 7.5 billion in 2008-09 to US$ 11.79 billion in 2014-15.
