Medi Assist, India’s largest TPA launches Me.MediBuddy Portal for Retail Policy Holders

Allows individual and family floater policy holders to create their own personalized login credentials to access health benefits online anytime and from anywhere.

Chennai, February17, 2016: Medi Assist, India’s largest Third Party Administrator (TPA), has launched Me.MediBuddy, a portal that for the first time in the industry, allows personal and family floater health insurance policy holders to independently sign up for online access to their health benefits.

After signing up with their preferred login credentials on Me.MediBuddy, members can access their e-card, search network hospitals, track claims in real-time and also opt for an eCashless planned hospitalization from the comfort of their homes. With eCashless, Medi Assist members can completely eliminate wait time at the hospital by obtaining a provisional preauthorization at least 48 hours prior to date of admission.

Satish Gidugu, COO, Medi Assist, said, ”Our corporate customers get instant access to health benefits with our MediBuddy online portal and mobile app. Retail customers, on the other hand, are widely distributed and are serviced via innumerable personal insurance agents. So, while technically retail policy holders also have access to the same channels of self-help, they are either unaware of their benefits or are unsure about how to get started. Me.MediBuddy changes the game by allowing members to create their own username and password and on-board themselves. And they can use the same credentials to access healthcare on-the-go using our MediBuddy mobile app.”

This initiative assumes greater significance in light of the IRDA Annual Report 2014-‘15 which indicates that retail health insurance is one of the fastest growing segments today, contributing 44% of the total health insurance premium collected in 2014-‘15. There is an urgent need for the industry to respond to these changing dynamics and provide retail consumers an experience that is at par with that offered to group insurance policy holders today.

“Me.MediBuddy never forgets its users. Once you create your account, it remains forever, giving you access to current information and also, over time, building your electronic health records repository. This helps you track and manage healthcare spends and benefits utilization more effectively,” adds Satish.

Chennai, 17 February 2016: Murugappa Group today launched a new tri-lingual brand campaign continuing their successful format of eight different films featuring major brands of the Group.  The ads have been created in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu to leverage the increasing preference for the rich idiom of the local languages.

New President of ICAI, CA. Devaraja Reddy briefs media on ICAI initiatives!

Hyderabad, February 17th 2016: CA. M. Devaraja Reddy, President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), interacted with the media on the initiatives being undertaken by ICAI at a Press conference on Wednesday at ICAI Bhawan, Hyderabad.

CA. Devaraja Reddy was elected as the President of ICAI on February 12, 2016, for the year 2016-17. He is the first president of ICAI hailing from the two Telugu states. CA. Raghunandan V, Chairman, Hyderabad Branch, SIRC, ICAI and CA. Adusumalli Venkateswara Rao were present on the occasion.

Speaking to media CA. Devaraja Reddy said, this is the first time in the 64 years history of ICAI, that someone from the two Telugu states has been elected as the president. The institute currently has 2.4 lakh members off which 90,000 are independent CA practitioners, 1.2 lakhs with corporates and around 30,000 working abroad. We have revamped the syllabus for CA exam, by incorporating the latest, borrowing curriculum from of similar courses from abroad and removing redundant subjects. The new syllabus has been approved by the Ministry, currently being vetted from legal perspective, post which we will seek public comments for 45 days and then introduce it either by November 2016 or May 2017.

To filter non-serious students we are bringing in more reforms. The new eligibility exam will be 12th standard. The examination will be of 400 marks instead of the current 200 marks, and divided as 200 for subjective and 200 marks through objective type questions. Our CAs are competing internationally as our standards are high and communication skills are excellent. We have 153 branches in India and 27 chapters across the world. We are opening more braches at places where we have 100 members. We have 2 branches in Warangal and one in Karimnagar besides the Center of Excellence at Hyderabad.

In Andhra we started branches in Eluru, Tirupati, Kurnool, Ongole, Anantapur. We need land of 2 acres to construct our buildings in all these cities besides Guntur and Vijayawada, we will pay government land rate and will spend Rs 3 crores into each of these. If Government gives us 5 acres land in Amaravati, we can set up a Center of Excellence. We appeal to both the CMs to help us in getting land in all these cities at Government rate.

The services of CAs are being utilized to the potential by private sector but Government is not utilizing our services properly. There is resistance from officials in the Government, they follow single accounting system and don’t want double accounting, which has several advantages. Railways has given a pilot project in Ajmer division, on successfully implementing it we could have a role in Railways.

There are 600 districts in the country, to control their expenses auditing is essential, it can streamline the spending, there by bring transparency and better results from the expenditure of various schemes of state and central governments. We will have a greater role with the advent of GST and even for loans offered by World Bank CA certification is necessary. To avoid Satyam like  incidents we have been advising our members to be alert and not to fall prey to some greedy people.

The Government had dispensed with the system of RBI designating CAs for banks some seven years back. Now the Banks themselves decide on the CAs for auditing and often they settle for those who suit their style, there by proper auditing may not be happening, NPAs may not be disclosed to show higher profitability. Earlier ICAI used to classify the CA firms and RBI used to designate such auditors for banks. Such independent auditors could put a check on NPAs. Also banks are getting only 20% of their branches audited, if every branch is audited than there could be control on loan disbursement. Lack of proper auditing is one of the reasons for the rising NPA and could bring down NPAs by 20 to 30% by independent auditing. We have been representing to RBI about this for the last 4 years, they say the finance ministry has to take a decision. We have sought an appointment with the Finance minister on February 22nd, 2016 and will convey our position to him.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday announced free bus travel for senior citizens in Chennai metropolitan area from her 68th birthday on February 24.

Making the announcement in the state assembly, she asserted that with this the AIADMK government has fulfilled "all the electoral promises" made by the party in 2011 in the state, which is set to go to polls in barely three months.

"We had made a poll promise in our election manifesto that senior citizens would be provided free bus passes...I am happy to say that with this announcement we have fulfilled all the promises made in the AIADMK's election manifesto in 2011," she said.

The free travel, with a cap of ten journeys in a month, is the latest in the series of freebies implemented by the AIADMK regime such as cost-free milch cows, sheep, mixers, grinders and fans and laptop for students.

"I am also very happy to say that besides fulfilling all our electoral promises, we have also implemented various other welfare schemes," she said amid thunderous applause from ruling party legislators and allies. She said in the first phase, the scheme for free travel for senior citizens would be implemented in the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses in Chennai.

Under the plan, elderly people over the age of 60 may travel in all the MTC buses barring air-conditioned buses. The beneficiaries would be given ten tokens per month and they could give it to conductors in buses and travel free of cost.

"The scheme envisaging free travel for senior citizens in Chennai Metropolitan Corporation buses will be implemented from February 24 and after eliciting people's response it will be extended to other places," she said.

Those willing to avail the scheme should fill in an application form and submit it to transport authorities and get an identity card and tokens for travel. The forms could be obtained from transport corporation depots and transport department website, she said.

There is no deadline to submit application forms and these can be presented at the transport corporation bus depots any time, she said. Soon after she made the announcement, eight legislators, Transport Minister P Thangamani and Speaker Dhanapal praised and thanked her for the new initiative.
