Approx 210 newly qualified Company Secretaries were awarded Associate Membership of the Institute during the ICSI convocation for Southern Region.
Chennai, 25 June 2016: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) today organised its convocation for Southern region awarding the Associate membership of the Institute to newly qualified Company Secretaries. During the event, they also awarded prizes/medals to meritorious CS members.
CA T. N. Manoharan, Chairman, Canara Bank presented the certificates Padma Shri Awardee was the Chief Guest at the event. CA T. N. Manoharan while delivering the inaugural address, congratulated the new CS members. He motivated them to remain inquisitive throughout their lives, saying this would ensure constant growth of their knowledge. He requested the students to follow the path of truth in whichever endeavour they undertake.
“As a young Indian, you have a unique opportunity to influence the world around you. Being part of Indian youth that accounts for 65% (below 35 years) of 1.3 billion you have a dominant role to play in shaping the future of the world. By 2020, average age of Indian population would be 29, as compared to 37 for China and 48 for Japan. The Economy of any Nation, in today’s scenario, is knowledge and skill sets driven. Having acquired knowledge through professional course, you need to sharpen it, refine it and continuously mould it to match with the changes in the environment. As a company secretary, you can play a vital role in implementing corporate governance of high standard. You can ensure adherence to statutory norms and compliance by every corporate citizen. The ethical standards and competence you imbibe in your service delivery will inspire stakeholders faith and confidence in a corporate entity.”
CS Shyam Aggarwal, Vice-President, ICSI congratulated the new members who were conferred with Certificate of Associate membership of ICSI. He said, “The ICSI has constantly added value by incorporating the best business and technical practices and philosophies to bridge the gap between education through books and the practical realities of the outside world so that the students are fully equipped to deliver their best.” He also said, “The whole world is changing in all the spheres at a mindboggling speed. In this transformational and disruptive environment, The ICSI believes that the best gift it can give to its students is the ability to understand this very basic nature of change so that they are well prepared for the future.”
Earlier, the ceremony began with an address by CS Ramasubramaniam C, Convocation Programme Director & Council Member, The ICSI. He extended his wishes and said that “We are confident that the new CS Members will be able to meet all the challenges faced by them. Our convocation reflects ICSI’s efforts in creating future professionals who will strive to bring about a positive change around them as well as across India at large.” he said.
CS Ahalada Rao V, Convocation Programme Director & Central Council Member, The ICSI in his special address said that CS course is a visa to enter in the corporate world. Once you have entered, Opportunities are there in front of you like feast it depends on your appetite to attain and achieve the same.
CS Sivakumar P, Convocation Programme Coordinator & Chairman, SIRC of ICSI making concluding remarks and proposing a vote of thanks congratulated the newly qualified Company Secretaries and advised the students that they should take care of performance in whatever they do and the wealth would take care of itself. He reiterated the fact that, “the path to success is through hard work and perseverance.”
