Chennai: The manifesto for the May 16 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, released in Chennai today by the four-party combine People's Welfare Front (PWF) promised to introduce total prohibition of alcohol and set-up Lok Ayukta and constitute ethics committee to scrutinise the government works, if the front was voted to power.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko released the alliance's manifesto at his party's headquarters here on Thursday. CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan and VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan and others were present.
Vaiko said the PWF would also launch awareness campaigns to get rid of the motive for alcohol consumption. In a novel idea to attract the students, Vaiko said, if the Front forms the government, it would provide extra marks for students, who plant trees to protect the environment, separate houses for transgenders, policies to protect MSME sector and free mineral water, among others.
Like DMK and PMK, the PWF also promises to set up Lokayuktha to eradicate corruption and also waive farm loans. "Corruption starts from the distribution of pattas. To prevent frauds and corruption in the patta distribution, the alliance will set up Lokayuktha and computerise the revenue department," said the manifesto.
