The Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) felicitated and honoured Dr. Soumya Swaminathan , First Indian to be appointed as the Deputy Director General of WHO with a plaque recently .
Speaking at the event, Dr. Swaminathan said, “Cleanliness and sanitation should be inculcated in children from a young age. They should be given an chance to experiment and do things for themselves in school laboratories and this would inculcate in them a curiosity, a requirement for research in life later.”
She also recalled her tenure at the Chennai-based Tuberculosis Research Centre and spoke about public health and its importance.
