Chennai, 8th September, 2017 – Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Chennai organized a Human chain to raise awareness for Eye donation as a part of National Eye donation fortnight 2017, today in front of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Cathedral Road, Chennai.
The National Eye Donation Fortnight is observed every year from 25th August to 8th September.
The Human chain was started by film actor, Padma Shri Vivek and presided by Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman, Dr Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospitals.
A huge participation of more than 500 members belonging to different age groups comprising College students, Doctors & staff of Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital and the general public held placards participated in the human chain which created a mass public awareness about the importance of Eye donation and generated Eye donation pledges.
Film Actor, Padma Shri Vivek said, “Blindness is one of the major public health problem faced in developing countries like India. Individuals should come forward to pledge to donate their eyes and support this noble cause”.
Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman, Dr Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospitals said, “There are 45 million blind persons in the world of which 12 million blind persons are in India, which includes 1% of corneal blindness. We at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital observed National Eye Donation fortnight at all our Dr Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospitals and campaigned to bring the masses on a common platform to understand the importance of Eye donation”.
The human chain created a mass public awareness about the importance of Eye donation and more than 500 people pledged to donate eye by signing and getting their donor cards.
