Mahaveer Ashray – State’s First of its Kind Palliative Care Centre for Terminally Ill Underprivileged Patients to be Inaugurated at Sriperumbudur

Chennai, June 21, 2017: The Singhvi Charitable Trust, provider of various kinds of relief to the poor and needy - is throwing open tomorrow (22nd June) state’s first of its kind palliative care centre 'Mahaveer Ashray' for terminally ill poor and underprivileged cancer patients, in Smt. Chandrabai Singhvi Campus at Sriperumbudur. The announcement on the commencement of the centre was made during a press meet held today (June 21, 2017) at the venue.
Shri N Sugalchand Jain, Founder and The Board of Trustees of the Singhvi Charitable Trust are to hand over the keys of the centre to Padma Vibhushan Dr. V. Shanta, Chairman, Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar.
The 50-bedded state-of-the-art facility built in 4.60 acres of land features well-equipped functional space of 39,350 sq.ft. with patient-comfort ambience. The total cost of the Palliative Care Centre is around Rs.25 crores.
Mahaveer Ashray would provide emotional support, physical comfort and required medical attention to patients enabling them to spend their last days in peace. It would also provide emotional support to the families of the patients.
The Trust donates Mahaveer Ashray to the Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, as it is the most efficient, caring institute doing extra ordinary noble service to the patients under the dedicated supervision of Padma Vibhushan Dr. V. Shantha. The Cancer Institute (WIA) will fully and exclusively manage, control and operate the Mahaveer Ashray with the mission `service to all’ irrespective of social or economic class.
“Drawing inspiration from an idea expressed by the late Dr. Krishnamurthi and Dr. Shanta, the people responsible for the development of the Cancer Institute as an eminent institution, Singhvi Charitable Trust has come up with such an arrangement that would ensure that the maximum possible relief is provided to such patients in an institution without their occupying beds in a hospital which could be used for patients who can be treated and cured,” said Shri N Sugalchand Jain, Founder of The Singhvi Charitable Trust.
“Apart from donating this Palliative Care Centre at Sriperumbudur, we have had the privilege of adding the three facilities namely Bhagwan Adinath Jain Complex, Jadavbai Nathmal Singhvi Oncology Complex and Bhagwan Mahaveer Vishranti Graha at the Cancer Institute campus,” he added.
