CHENNAI: DMK treasurer M K Stalin on Tuesday said he will lead a protest in Alanganallur in Madurai district on January 3 demanding that the central government take action to lift ban on jallikattu so that the bull-taming sport can be held during the Pongal festival.
"We staged a protest in Alanganallur in January last. However, after Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan said jallikattu would be held definitely during Pongal, the strike was called off. But nothing has happened after that," said Stalin in a statement.
Stalin said he had consulted party general secretary K Anbazhagan before announcing the decision to hold protest in Alanganallur on January 3. The protest will begin at 10am.
Stalin thanked Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat and former BJP MP Tarun Vijay for having opened a Thiruvalluvar statue in that state.
