Chennai 27th September: On the wake of World Heart Day Global Health City had organized a memorable reunion of patients who had undergone life saving Primary Angioplasty treatment for heart attack. The first 60 minutes after a cardiac emergency is called The Golden Hour. It has been proved in clinical trials, that treatment within the first 60 minutes, improves survival rate following a heart attack, cardiac emergency. The heart muscle damage starts within 80-90 minutes after it stops getting blood supply, and after six hours, almost all the affected parts of the heart could be irreversibly damaged. After a heart attack or Cardiac arrest rushing the patient to a tertiary care hospital equipped with 24/7 cardiologist, cath lab and appropriate team is crucial.
After a cardiac arrest, CPR is performed to restore and maintain breathing and circulation, to provide oxygen and blood flow to the heart, brain, and other vital organs. CPR can be performed on infants, children, adolescents, and adults. After a successful CPR and critical interventions post-cardiac arrest management plays a vital role in saving the patients lives. Rehabilitation and lifestyle modification further prevents future cardiac ailments / emergencies. Cardiac rehabilitation programs consist of three parts, 1. Exercise led by a certified exercise specialist 2. Classes to teach you about risk factors for heart disease 3. Ways to reduce those risks support for dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression.
The reunion witnessed around 20 patients and eminent cardiologists Dr. Arun, Dr. Gobu, Dr. Susan and Dr. Narendrakumar presence. The patients shared their unforgettable memories about the primary angioplasty procedure. The pledge of every patient was recorded on the World Heart Day pledge wall erected on the reception area of the hospital. A novel initiative to remind people & patients alike about their life time promises.
