Chennai: Chennai based IT engineer Swathi murder suspect P. Ramkumar, allegedly committed suicide in the Puzhal prison on Sunday, police sources said. He was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead.
According to sources, Ramkumar managed to touch the live wire in the high security prison to commit suicide. Cops later rushed and tried to rescue him after disconnecting the power supply. But doctors at the Royapettah Government hospital declared him dead on arrival.
Swathi, a 24-year-old Chennai based techie, was murdered on June 24 at the Nugambakkam police station. Regarding this murder, Ramkumar was arrested from his home on July 1 in Sengottai, Tirunelveli. Even at that time he allegedly attempted suicide by slitting throat.
