Chennai, 23rd July 2016: Prof. Dr. Mohamed Rela, Director - Institute of Liver Disease & Transplantation, Global Hospitals Group, has been recognized by ‘Top Masters in Healthcare Administration’ as one of the 20 Most Innovative Pediatric Surgeons Alive Today.
Prof. Rela has been recognized in the article for his mammoth contribution to the field of transplant surgery. Prof. Rela is considered as the world authority on pediatric liver transplantation. A fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Prof. Rela had earlier worked at the King’s College Hospital, London. He is also the Chair of the Pediatric Committee for the International Liver Transplantation Society.
Prof. Rela has performed more than 3,000 transplants, including one on a five-day-old baby, earning him an entry into the Guinness Book of Records. He has also pioneered the swap liver transplantation for adults. Prof. Rela also successfully performed a liver transplant on a four-year-old with terminal stage liver cancer.
He has performed six liver transplants and a bone marrow transplant on one patient. He is known in India and around the world for successfully performing highly complex surgeries to save the lives of very young children.
