16th June 2016, Chennai: Having built and supported over 450 schools till date that will impact the lives of over 8,00,000 underprivileged children, P&G’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program P&G Shiksha continues to march forward with the motto ‘Padhega India, Badhega India’. Now in its 12th year, P&G Shiksha continues to make critical infrastructure and learning interventions by building and supporting schools across the country thereby providing underprivileged children with access to education.
Taking the programme ahead this year, P&G Shiksha launched ‘Shiksha Superheroes’ a campaign to acknowledge consumers, the real-life superheroes who make a simple brand choice of buying P&G products and contribute to this noble cause impacting the lives of thousands of underprivileged children. Joining the movement this year, the newly married Dinesh Karthik and Dipika Pallikal donned the avatar of ‘Shiksha Superhero’ for the students of P&G Shiksha School in Chennai.
The sporting couple emphasized on the importance of education in the lives of children and encouraged the people of Tamil Nadu to be Shiksha Superheroes by simply choosing P&G Products and contribute to the education of underprivileged children. The amazing duo Dinesh & Dipika got a chance to coach the students and reminiscence about their school days and shared their memories with the children.
Arjuna Award winner & Shiksha Superhero Dipika Pallikal expressed her joy by saying, “I am visiting the P&G Shiksha School for the first time and got an opportunity to witness the difference P&G Shiksha has made to the lives of the children here in Chennai. Education is extremely important for every child’s growth. My family has always given importance to education and made sure that I was given access to quality education. Education brings in discipline and knowledge that has played a very important role in moulding me as an individual and as sports professional. I realized today that it is very easy to be a Shiksha Superhero in real life; this simple act will improve the lives of underprivileged children and make a big difference to their future. It’s very important to provide children with a comfortable environment to study so that they grow up into responsible citizen and make India proud”.
Renowed Indian Cricketer & Shiksha Superhero Dinesh Karthik expressed his delight by saying, “I am glad to be a part of this programme because I strongly feel that education is a basic right to be provided to all children. Everyone can become a real-life Superhero, all you have to do is choose P&G products and become part of the P&G Shiksha movement that will enable you to contribute towards education of underprivileged children. I strongly believe that education is extremely important for every child’s growth, however focusing on overall development is also very important. By encouraging students in this school to balance their academics with sports, not only is P&G Shiksha focusing on overall development of the students but are also creating a pathway for the these children to get bright career opportunities and maybe tomorrow we will have few sports stars from this school”.
During their visit to the P&G Shiksha School in Pallikarnai, Chennai, Dipika and Dinesh also elaborated on the interventions made in this school. With the help of its NGO Round Table India (RTI), P&G Shiksha has added 30 classrooms and 6 toilet blocks to the school which helped in reducing the dropouts in the school. Just like this school, in Tamil Nadu alone P&G Shiksha has improved the lives of more than 20352 under privileged children by building and supporting close to 73 schools along with 27 toilet blocks and 10 playgrounds. With the objective of providing access to education to every child across the nation, P&G Shiksha is working extensively by making key infrastructure interventions. P&G Shiksha has been instrumental in the change by equipping the schools with necessary amenities from building classrooms to providing clean drinking water to setting up playgrounds thereby bringing down the dropout rate and improving overall literacy rate in Tamil Nadu.
