International Nurses Day 2016 celebrated by the Nursing Directorate Global Health City

FORCE FOR CHANGE – IMPROVING HEALTH SYSTEMS’ RESILIENCE

Chennai, 25th May 2016: Nursing Directorate, Global Hospitals Group celebrated International Nurses Day 2016 here on Chennai. Dr. K. Ravindranath, Chairman – Global Hospitals Group presided over as Chief Guest and Ms. Elaine Ng Kim Choon, Group Director of Nursing, Parkway Health presided over as guest of honour during the celebrations.

Over 700 nursing staff had participated in the celebration. Nursing encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. Advocacy, promotion of a safe environment, research, participation in shaping health policy and in patient and health systems Management and education are also key nursing roles.

International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on the month of May to raise awareness on the important role nurses play in society. It marks the beginning of International National Nurses day, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.

Dr. K. Ravindranath, Chairman Global Hospitals Group said “Broader objective of observing International Nurses Day is to improve health and socioeconomic development outcomes by ensuring universal availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of the health workforce through adequate investments and the implementation of effective policies at regional, national and global levels. From the inception of Global Hospitals, nursing professionals have always been the heartbeat and the backbone of our Organization. I thank all our nurses for upholding the credibility and ethicality of care delivery uniformly across all categories of patients, thus upholding the Medical profession’s and Nursing Profession’s glory. Added words of recognition for nurses, “Your work in silence, your dedication behind the scenes and your commitment to excellence with each successful surgery and treatment is never unseen by us”.

Dr. Jyothi Clara J. Micheal, Nursing Director, Global Hospitals Group said “The nurse workforce has a long history of responding to the changing needs of Healthcare Industry. We have developed our practice to tackle patient health challenges and to ensure the provision of high quality care. The nursing workforce is empowered to connect with Patients, Doctors, Policy makers and Communities. We will strive to Excel by our Predictive, Proactive, Bedside and Leadership Transformational Strategies carefully”

Ms. Elaine Ng Kim Choon, Group Director of Nursing, Parkway Health, Unfolded the Nurses Day Theme “Nurses a Force for Change: Improving Health Systems’ Resilience” and she addressed Nurses assuring that Parkway and Global are one family and that we will jointly bring nursing to visibility not only in India but Internationally. 

Colonel Hemraj Parmar, the Chief Operating Officer of Global Health City offered his deep appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to all Nurses for serving with distinction and keeping the flag of this wonderful profession flying high.

The celebration began with the Nurses Pledge and concluded with the launch of the Nursing Website and the Release of a short Film “Tribute to Nurses” to pay respect and to acknowledge the Nursing Fraternity for all their Contributions in Health Care. The highlight of celebration was the Bravery Award for Nurses for saving lives during the December 2015 Chennai Flood proving that nurses can contribute to develop strong and resilient health systems Locally, Nationally and Globally.
