Hyderabad, May 4, 2016: For the recently set up interdisciplinary Centre for Healthcare Entrepreneurship at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, the institute today announced ‘Fellowship in Healthcare Entrepreneurship’, a prestigious dedicated to achieving healthcare for all and making universal healthcare a reality.
The 1-year fellowship training is a world-class program for healthcare entrepreneurs conceptualized, administered and mentored by an international team comprising entrepreneurs, top US and Indian academicians & biomedical industry. The training will be more hands on, in a simulated entrepreneurial journey and will be followed by an opportunity to incubate, giving access to technological expertise at IIT Hyderabad, provide exposure to local and global VC partners and form cross disciplinary founding teams of medicos, engineers and designers.
Candidates with a background in any engineering discipline or medicine with a passion for entrepreneurship in healthcare are eligible to apply for the fellowship and all fellows will be paid a stipend of Rs. 50,000 pm/- during the training period. Prof. Renu John, Head, Center for Healthcare Entrepreneurship added, “The primary focus of this program is to bring together, engineers, clinicians, medical researchers and entrepreneurs on a single platform to innovate. Center for Healthcare Entrepreneurship, IIT Hyderabad provides this platform and equips the fellows of the program with exposure to cutting edge research labs and hands-on expertise in 3-D digital prototyping facilities to test their innovative ideas and designs. The center includes faculties and students spread across 13 disciplines including all Engineering disciplines, Design, humanities and liberal arts.”
Raj Mashruwala & Avinash Manudhane commented, “The Programme is unique in the country in creating end-to-end ecosystem of class room training, hands-on work with partner medical organization, VC participation and incubation coupled with generous stipend and incubation grant to fast start innovation. It is the first program in any IITs to combine fields of engineering, science, medicine and product design with needs identification at partner medical facilities to create commercial solutions in healthcare.”
