Chennai, 20th September 2017: Team India gears up to participate at the biggest exhibition for skills, WorldSkills Competition popularly known as “Skill Olympics” in the world, which will be organized in Abu Dhabi from 14th to 19th October 2017. More than 1200 competitors from 70+ countries will compete across 50 skills at this biennial competition.
Harsha Prabakaran from Chennai bagged the opportunity to represent India in Electronics skill at the WorldSkills 2017. Harsha was born and brought up in Chennai. He started presenting science projects at the age of 9 and later found his niche in electronics sector. He did his Bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering, during which he realized the importance of specialized skills in his field. He dedicated a lot of his time to develop his skill-set along with academic proficiency. These resulted in a funded internship at France, publication of Paper in IEEE journal and most importantly winning a Gold-Medal at IndiaSkills 2016, among other accomplishments. Harsha has also filed for a few patents and is a published author of a couple of books. His love for Electronics and his motivate to win a medal for India, has motivated him to work hard for the last months, while preparing for the WorldSkills.
Harsha believes that “Skills play an important role and students should focus on enhancing them by working on live projects.”
National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has been spearheading India’s participation under WorldSkills since 2011. For the upcoming competition, WorldSkills India has selected a team of 28 competitors, who will compete in 26 skills ranging from car painting, brick laying, hair styling, beauty therapy, proto-type modeling, auto body repair, visual merchandizing, mobile robotics, CNC Turing, welding among others.

NSDC had identified all the competitors through a series of competitions organized at regional and national levels over the past two years. Post which all the candidates have undergone extensive training with Industry partners, which has helped them improve their skills before the competition. Many candidates have also travelled overseas to get trained under the guidance of some of the best trainers and experts available internationally.
