Chennai, September 06, 2017: CRY – Child Rights and You, in association with Airtel is organizing its 5th edition of the annual “Soccer for Child Rights” tournament at SDAT B Ground, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, on September 9, to advocate for the right to a childhood - to live, learn, grow and play.
This year the match will be played between 17 corporate teams and CRY’s partner SCSTEDS (Slum Children Sports Talent Education Development Society), CRY’s on-ground partner. The unique thing about this year’s tournament is that there are two women teams participating- SCSTEDS (girls from CRY’s project in Chennai) and Infosys.
The initiative is being supported by Shankara Builders and The Hindu, Suryan FM and Lakshmi Vilas Bank.
Suma Ravi, Regional Director (South), CRY, said “We are very delighted to be conducting the 5th edition of the Soccer for Child Rights tournament. The excitement among children and corporates has seen a constant increase over the years. From our last four year’s experience, we have observed that the our project children’s interaction with successful corporate employees increases their motivation level to remain in school and study. This has been a tremendous change that is a collective effort of all these corporate employees who take time off their schedule to contribute to the cause and meet the heroes of our project.”
The event is designed to raise awareness amongst corporate employees on CRY’s project in Vyasdarpadi. Sports is seen as a wonderful opportunity for the city to show its concern for the rights of children in a unique manner.
