Chennai : Two workshops in the space of five days have helped to apprise all stakeholders involved in the exciting new T20 Global League (#T20GL) of the many preparatory details. Excitement followed the participants who are now ready to be part of a memorable six weeks of action packed T20 cricket.

A successful workshop with the team owners ended in Dubai on Sunday, while another workshop attended by all the CSA Affiliate Member Presidents and CEOs from the eight host venues was held in Johannesburg yesterday. Updates on the latest developments in the #T20GL were presented at the workshop.

“Having four experienced team owners in the group has helped us to host two very productive days in Dubai,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat. “It helped us to identify and deal with key issues a lot quicker.

“With less than 100 days to go before the opening match, we will need to move even faster from this day on.

“The Owners Workshop proved to be a success with all the owners enthralled by the details shared with them. Similarly, I was encouraged by the excitement and participation of our Members at yesterday’s workshop.

“We are now preparing for the Player Draft towards month end and that will undoubtedly be a major highlight in setting up the T20 Global League,” concluded Lorgat.

Lorgat’s optimism and confidence was echoed by several team owners and participants at the two workshops.

Free State Cricket CEO, Johan van Heerden said: “I would like to praise CSA for this initiative as it puts SA Cricket in a different league. Haroon has driven this process remarkably well and has shown great insight to maximize the success of this wonderful global tournament.”

Western Province Cricket Union CEO, Nabeal Dien said: “CSA must be commended for the work done thus far in a short space of time. The information provided at the workshop speaks of something exciting and exhilarating in the global cricket space.”

KZN Cricket Union CEO, Heinrich Strydom said: “This is certainly one of the most exciting sporting events to hit our shores. It is a massive privilege to be a part of this event and I believe all cricket fans should embrace this opportunity to be part of a truly global event.”

Port Elizabeth Franchise Owner, Ajay Sethi said: “I was very impressed by what I saw at the owner’s workshop. We are moving from baby steps to walking, meaning we can see the future now and it’s really exciting to see the T20 Global League taking shape.”

Co-owner of the Durban Franchise, Sameen Rana said: “It was very nice to see all of us in one room and the sessions we had across all key areas were very good. Overall it was a very productive workshop with lots of information to share and lots to learn as well.”

Venky Mysore, representing the Cape Town Franchise said: “I was very pleased to see the tone that had been set by Haroon and his team at the workshop. The importance of anti-corruption and the measures that we have to take collectively cannot be sufficiently emphasized. To this end, the importance that was placed on this subject in the agenda was very re-assuring. Overall, it was a very productive workshop and the excitement amongst the participants for the #T20GL was noticeable.”

The player draft is scheduled for late August, with almost 400 players from 10 countries confirming their interest.
