CHENNAI: The state government on Wednesday appointed senior bureaucrat V K Jeyakodi as vigilance commissioner.
Jeyakodi replaced Niranjan Mardi, home secretary, who was holding additional charge of vigilance. The 1984-batch officer will oversee the probe by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) into the gutka scam, allegedly involving a minister and senior police officials.
The appointment of full-time vigilance commissioner comes after Madras high court ordered the state government last week to appoint an "upright officer and a person of unimpeachable integrity" to the post within two weeks.
