04, March 2017, Chennai: As the journey towards “Total Literacy & Quality Education” cannot be completed alone, Rotary India has joined hands with various stake holders to achieve 100% literacy.
Rotary South Asia Literacy Summit was inaugurated by Union Minister for HRD Shri Prakash Javadekar on Friday and was attended by the representatives from SAARC countries, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh etc.
Rtn. Shekar Mehta, Convenor of the 3 day summit on Literacy said, “The highlight of this summit is the signing of many MoU’s with Government and other organisations to fulfil the mission of total Literacy in partnership with Govt. and other agencies.
The details are as under:
* Bringing sunshine into widows life, Rotary India Literacy Mission{RILM} has signed a pact with the England based organization “The Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba Memorial Foundation”. Under the agreement 30,000 widows will be trained in various fields depending upon the local requirement and interest of the widows, such as, care giving, hospitality sector, telecom sector, textile industry, computer courses etc.
Training would not only be given to widows but unmarried daughters of the widows and single parent mothers too, who are 20 to 45 years old. Loomba Foundation would also support the mainstreaming project of 2,000 children who are currently either not enrolled in the school or drop out or not able to read as appropriate to their age.
* Rotary India Literacy Mission and EkStep Foundation has joined hands and signed MoU with an objective to reach out to the larger society and promote EkStep digital learning platform that is the repository of openly accessible resource, applications and content developed by several individuals and organisations from across the country. The collaboration RILM and it’s partners will use the platform tools to create digital content and contribute to the content repository. The learning platform is accessible through an Android application called “Genie”.
* Rotary India Literacy Mission has partnered with Labournet Services India Private Limited (one of the leading skill development training provider organization in the country) for providing skill development training to 8,000 widows in the States of Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, ensuring their livelihood. It would provide dignity to the widows, unmarried daughters of widows and single parent mothers the opportunity to give respectful life to their children by ensuring the education.
* Government of Maharashtra and Rotary India Literacy Mission have signed an MoU to equip classrooms in 18,510 government or government aided schools in the State of Maharashtra with digital content.
* Along with ensuring that every child in India goes to school, Rotary India Literacy Mission is looking forward to have healthy children and thus joined hands with Food Security Foundation India, India Food Banking Network. The collaboration would ensure that more than 45,000 children that are getting the special training at various Asha Kiran Centres of Rotary across India for mainstreaming in government schools get regular food too. It aims to serve 1 million meals to such children so that parents from weaker section are also encouraged to send their children regularly to study and get nutritive diet.
* Rotary India Literacy Mission and Indian Career Education and Development Council have come together to strengthen and sharpen the skills of teachers of government / government aided schools in the State of Maharashtra by providing training and Mykensho online support portal for them. The collaboration aims to enhance the capabilities and professional skills of the teachers which will impact the learning outcomes of the students and thereby help in improving the quality of education in the country.
* Rotary India Literacy Mission is striving towards “Total Literacy & Quality Education” through holistic program T-E-A-C-H. Under this programme, the mission upgrades existing government / government aided schools with various basic facilities that encourage children to attend school regularly and continue education. One such facility is to establish libraries and to do this, it has joined hands with Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust. The collaboration has taken up “Mission 10,000 Libraries” across India. Libraries would be established by way of collecting used books and distribute them to the schools that need them. Collection of the books would be done nationally and internationally through Rotarians and various other partners of both the organizations.
