Shri Rudy emphasizes on standardization of skill curriculum across the country through NIMI
In line with weaving the country into one skill curriculum and bringing in standardization for skill development, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) during his visit to Chennai, today stated that NIMI, will now devise a common curricula for all skill courses across industries in the country and bring in synergy across all initiatives in skills.
With the introduction of the common norms across all development schemes, all programmes skill development courses in the country have to be alignment with the National Skills Qualification Framework. Shri Rudy emphasised that NIMI will be able to put this one framework together with the experience it has so far. Shri Rudy said this today, during his visit to the National Instructional Media Institute (NIMI).
NIMI has till now designed modules and advanced modules for Directorate General of Training (DGT) for their Centre of Excellence for 21 sectors and instructional material for modular employable skills courses across 37 sectors. It has been active in delivering video instructional programmes, has digitized several course materials and also conducting seminars and trainings.
Applauding the good work that NIMI has done so far, Shri Rudy said, “We are trying to set a robust base for the skill ecosystem through a well-defined course curriculum across sectors. NIMI has worked well for the DGT so far and while we upgrade the ITIs, we would also be keen to align the current Qualification Packs designed by Sector Skill Councils within the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) ecosystem, to a curriculum devised by NIMI which can be devised to produce a standardized curricula.”
“We will also look at using technology to deliver skill courses through their Audio visual content capability”, he further added.
The incremental human resource requirement in Chennai is expected to reach 3.6 lakh workers at the semi-skilled level and 2.25 lakhs at the skilled level by 2022. Construction, retail and travel, hospitality & tourism and travel are expected to drive the incremental requirement for skilled human resources.
112883 candidates have completed their training under the NSDC ecosystem out of which 45901 have been placed through 23 training partners in Chennai.
Under the Ministry’s flagship scheme of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Melas (PMKVY), which was launched mid last year by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, has till date enrolled 8502 candidates out of which 6789 have completed their training with the help of 36 training partner in Chennai. Kaushal Melas have also been organised in Chennai till date to disseminate information about various skill training options, outline possible career paths and income generation potential once the training is imparted would be held in every district.
There are currently 26 ITIs in Chennai which are operational and catering to skill development.
The Minister also visited the Advanced Training Institute (ATIs) and Regional Directorates of Apprenticeship Training (RDATs) to review their functionality.
Shri Rudy also suggested that we should promote internships in industry during the courses, so that there is hands on experience which the student gets which makes him more employable.
NIMI was worst hit by the Chennai flood and is currently restoring its facilities and functioning, looking at the performance of NIMI Mr. Rudy has assured full support from the Ministry.
