New Year’s Eve is one of Uber’s busiest nights of the year, and they expect millions of riders to rely on Uber for a safe, convenient ride to and from their celebrations.
Uber shared tips for the readers may want to keep in mind as we head into the big night.
Fares might be Higher than usual from Midnight - 3AM
Our goal is to ensure anyone, anywhere can push a button and get a ride within minutes. During times of peak demand -- on NYE that’s approximately around between midnight and 3am -- fares increase (via an algorithm) to help ensure a driver is always nearby and you can get a ride if you need one.
When fares are higher than usual, you’ll be notified and asked to confirm in app. If it’s out of your price range, you can always check back later. Also note, due to high demand, the option to schedule a rides on New Years will not be available from 12:00am-3:00am IST.
Upfront Fares for No Surprises
With upfront fares, you’ll see the total cost of your ride before you request. That means riders get to see and approve the fare in advance. There’s no math, and no surprises. The upfront fare takes into account all the factors that typically affect the price of a trip, including how many people are requesting rides, the length of the journey, etc.
Opt for Digital Payment Methods
Not sure if you have enough cash to pay for your trip, don’t panic. You can opt for digital payment methods like a prepaid wallet, credit or debit card, and go cashless. However, please do choose your preferred mode of payment before you begin a trip as you won’t be able to switch payment methods once the trip begins.
Split Your Fare
Start the party early by sharing an Uber with your friends, and split the fare right in the app. Or, select uberPOOL (available till midnight) to share the cost with other riders heading your way, for the most affordable option. uberPOOL is typically upto 50% of the cost of uberGO.
Confirm Your Driver and Car
Make sure you get into the right car with the right driver. Double check the car’s model and license plate in the app before you hop in your ride, and confirm it’s your driver by asking for their name and looking at their picture.
Share Your Status
Keep your family and friends posted by sharing your trip details straight from the app. Running late to a party? Use our Snapchat Integration to snap a selfie with your ETA to send to your friends.
Uber lost and found
It happens to everyone: You leave your Uber and realize you left something behind in the backseat. Whether it's your phone, your backpack, or even a shoe (yes, it's happened), with Uber it’s easy to recover lost items. Lost and found might come in handy during the holidays when gloves, scarves, and hats are apt to get left behind. Here’s how:
* The best way to retrieve an item you may have left in a vehicle will be to go to your past trips, and click on ‘I lost an item’ and hit ‘Contact my driver about a lost item’
* Scroll down to enter your phone number and tap SUBMIT.
* Your phone will ring and connect you with your driver’s mobile number.
* If you've lost your phone, please enter a friend's phone number to connect with your driver.
#DontDrinkAndDrive, Uber It
Aimed at encouraging people to opt for alternate modes of transportation and commute while reveling in the season’s festivities, Uber is collaborating with Bars Against Drunk Driving (BADD), includes over 250 bars and several fine-dining restaurants across the country, to ensure patrons to keep the roads safe by avoiding drunk driving.
As a part of this initiative, Uber will provide special promo codes to bars and restaurants that join this movement, give riders the option to ‘Gift an Uber’ and also set up breath analyser kiosks at hotspots to encourage people to make an informed decision to ‘uber it’ when under the influence of alcohol.
