SRM University, have great pleasure to organize the 16th International Workshop on Ion Beams in Biology and Medicine (IBIBAM – 2016). The theme of the workshop is Translational Aspects of Physics, biology and clinical Perspectives on Nov 12th, 2016 and Clinical and Treatment Planning challenges in disease sites on Nov 13th, 2016.

This workshop will look at possible future steps for ion beam in cancer therapy and address a number of key questions in this area. This Workshop will bring together scientists from all over the world to discuss the recent progress, application and future trends of ion beam studies in advanced materials, nanotechnology, nuclear materials, Radiation oncology physicians, physicists and administrators who are interested in learning about proton therapy. The local organizing committee looks forward to the opportunity to welcome delegates to an intellectually stimulating and socially memorable event.

The workshop is addressed to scientists interested in the effects of heavy ions in biological systems. An improved understanding of the mechanisms involved is of highest priority for interplanetary manned missions as well as for the application of heavy ions in cancer therapy. The symposium will include invited talks, plenary talks, poster sessions with moderated discussion.

We will focus on master lectures summarizing the experience in the special fields of radiobiological and medical proton and ion research. This Workshop is planned to understand what clinical and research capabilities are currently available, what capabilities are desired for the future, and what R&D activities are needed to bridge the gap.

Target Audience

Radiation oncologist, Medical physicists and administrators who are interested in learning about proton therapy.

Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

* Understand the logistics of establishing a proton therapy centre with clinical and research capabilities

* Describe the current clinical indications and applications for proton therapy

* Comprehend the various technical considerations in proton therapy planning

* Explain the regulatory aspects of proton therapy planning and delivery from the standpoints of quality assurance and compliance

Better perform their specific roles within the proton center Given the expanding knowledge of the role of the microbiome and other environmental effects on cancer risk, immune status and diseases in general, the understanding of the biology of natural products is also of high interest. In this context, a dedicated session led by the experts from the 16th International Workshop on Ion Beams in Biology and Medicine (IBIBAM – 2016), is discussing the biological effects of low-level radiation. Over 200 delegates with 80-100 faculty members from India, USA, UK, Europe, China and Japan are participating in this interactive event.

Dr. Kamineni Srinivas, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Andhra Pradesh presided over the function, Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice chair Person from Apollo group of Hospital, has delivered Inaugural address, Dr.Raju Sivasamy Vice President SRM Institute for Medical Sciences Vadapalani has delivered the Presidential Address, Shri S.A. Bhardwaj Chairman, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Government of India, Mumbai has consented to be the chief guest for opening ceremony on 12th Nov 2016 at 11.30 AM and Dr.Prathap C.Reddy will be the Guest of Honour for opening ceremony of 16th International Workshop on Ion Beams in Biology and Medicine (IBIBAM – 2016).
