CHENNAI: A 31-year-old software engineer and a 23-year-old woman, his cousin committed suicide at her house in Avadi here on Tuesday as both of them were unhappy about their parents choosing life partners for them whom they didn't like, police said.
Police identified the deceased as T Saravanan of Ullagaram and his cousin Saranya, 23, a resident of Avadi. They were found dead at Saranya's house in Tamil Nadu Housing Board quarters in Avadi on Tuesday evening when her parents returned after work.
Police said they had not recovered any suicide notes from them. Inquiries with their family members and relatives revealed that both of them were upset after their parents found partners for them.
Saravanan went to Saranya's house on Tuesday. (Saravanan's mother and Saranya's mother are sisters.) Both of them entered into a suicide pact and ended their lives by hanging themselves from ceiling fans with dupattas.
Police said it was not clear if the cousins wanted to marry each other. Police registered a case and were investigating.
