Chennai, Oct 13, 2016: “Knowledge through personal exposure and interaction on financial markets will help investors make wise decisions than learning trading online. Offline learning and enlightenment from experienced hands will not only aid in smart investments but also help overcome difficulties. Investors will have better chances of making profits only when they possess basic knowledge on products and training in trading,” said Mr. S. K. Mohanty, IRS, Executive Director, SEBI, the derivatives market regulator, inaugurating today (Oct 13, 2016) Contango Training & Research Academy - India’s first-of-its-kind institute for education on financial markets.
The academy was launched in the presence of dignitaries Mr. G. Chandrashekhar, Commodity Sector Specialist & Member SEBI-Commodity Derivatives Advisory Committee; and Mr. Manoj Suvarna, Segment Head (Commodities & Currency), Reliance Commodities Limited.
“SEBI has in place awareness programmes and trying to do its best to make people gain good financial literacy in India. Academies like Contango will accelerate the pace of knowledge spreading and encourage in informed investments,” he added.
Contango Training & Research Academy is a Chennai-headquartered educational institution and has embarked on a major initiative to provide a gamut of education and training service to aspirants in the field of financial markets covering various asset classes.
Delivering his presidential address, Mr. G. Chandrashekhar said “Public should make informed decisions when it comes to investments. This will help in the present challenging scenario of India, which as a growing economy is gradually integrating into the global economy. India’s future belongs to youth as 50% of its population is under 25 years of age and 31% below 15 years. Impartation of knowledge on financial markets will help youth contribute to the robust growth of the nation.”
Contango plans to offer basic, advanced and professional training to existing, fresh and potential investors and market participants; as well as to aspiring professionals to further enhance their knowledge and capability in financial markets.
Appreciating the launch of the academy Mr. Manoj Suvarna said that the chances of better trading and good returns on investments will increase if not only the investors gain knowledge on how to make wise investments but all the stakeholders of financial market including staff, brokers, and dealers have the right approach and training.
“We are planning to train around one lakh aspirants on financial markets in next 3 years by creating comprehensive educational facilities in all the Southern States and setting up about 30 training centers (direct and through channel partners) throughout the country in a phased manner in year’s time”, said Mr. T. Murrugappan, CEO and Promoter, Contango Training & Research Academy.
Indian derivatives market is opening up. Contango is all set to provide comprehensive training in investment in equity, commodity, debt, bond and currency markets. Contango has already initiated steps to work closely with various exchanges, regulatory bodies and policy makers.
“A well-organized and regulated financial market will not only ensure safety but also ensure greater participation and financial rewards for savvy investors. Adequate and appropriate knowledge and training is of paramount importance for market participants”, the CEO added.
Contango has already started to empanel renowned experts and industry veterans as faculty members. The academy aims to provide direct education and training to corporate executives, investors and professionals in all age groups.
Towards this end, Contango has initiated six modules of providing education and training. Under basic programme, it has two initiatives, Contango Certified Basic Program in financial markets and Contango Certified Basic Program in derivatives.
Under advanced program, the academy offers three certified advanced programs in equities, commodities and currency markets.
The sixth module, Contango Certified Professional Course in Financial Markets is structured to be delivered over a period of six months in such a way that professionals get a fortified understanding and learn the nuances of live markets (domestic and international).
This course would best suit students from all streams of education who have been through the basic course and wish to explore more on the financial markets. Contango would train the candidates to clear a select few NISM (National Institute of Securities Markets) certifications as a part of the course. Contango would also offer placement assistance for the candidates completing this course.
For the basic certified program in financial and derivative markets, Contango offers one full day program for freshers, ideally suited for students and young investors.
For the advanced programs in equities, commodities and currencies, the duration for each program is two months. The training session would be conducted in four days, according to Mr. Murrugappan. There will be eight weeks practice session, he added.
Contango also intends to introduce more modules, with `Options Trading’ in commodity markets recently approved by SEBI. In addition, banks, mutual funds and financial institutions may soon be allowed to trade in commodity markets. “Contango has every hope that about one lakh knowledge seekers will participate in its training initiatives,” Mr. Murrugappan said.
Contango cites that at present there is no academic institution that provides a practical-oriented comprehensive training in these markets and asset classes especially in South India. The professionals trained by Contango will have opportunity to fit into an appropriate position in organizations such as commercial banks, exchanges and financial institutions” according to Mr. Murrugappan.
