CHENNAI: In a 20 minute long meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday, PMK’s leader Anbumani Ramadoss requested Mr. Modi to intervene in the Palar issue to prevent it from turning into a serious law and order problem.
Pointing out that millions of Tamil farmers’ livelihood was at stake, he said the building of check dams across the Palar River, which runs through Karnataka, Andhra and Tamil Nadu, would seriously affect people living in the five northern districts - Vellore, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Thiruvallur and Chennai – that are benefited by the river both for drinking and irrigation purpose.
He also appealed to Prime Minister Modi to look into the practice of banks selling education loans to non-performing asset creation companies, which is proving to be detrimental to the interests of the student society.
